Bastrop County Updates | August 2025

There’s no shortage of movement in Bastrop County this month—from big tech and infrastructure changes to beloved local traditions. Here's what you need to know about what’s happening in our community right now.

🌐 EdgeConneX Data Center Breaks Ground in Cedar Creek

Construction has officially begun on the first phase of a massive data center campus by EdgeConneX in Cedar Creek. The first building will be over 578,000 square feet and is part of a multi-phase, billion-dollar project that will bring new infrastructure, construction jobs, and long-term tech-based employment to our area. This marks another step in Bastrop County’s growing role in Central Texas’ expanding tech economy.

💧 “Lost Pines Runs on Water” Campaign Launched

The Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District is rolling out a new public awareness campaign reminding us all that Bastrop County relies 100% on groundwater from the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer. The “Lost Pines Runs on Water” initiative is focused on education, conservation, and encouraging locals to think about how essential that aquifer is to daily life—whether you’re running a farm, raising a family, or just filling a glass at the sink.

🤠 Bastrop Homecoming & Rodeo Celebrates 78 Years

This summer marked the 78th annual Bastrop Homecoming & Rodeo—one of the county’s most cherished traditions. With a week of rodeo events, dances, games, a parade, and more, the celebration also raised funds for scholarships supporting students at Bastrop and Cedar Creek High Schools. It’s one of those events that reminds us just how deeply rooted community pride is around here.

🚰 Austin’s Aquifer Storage Plan Faces Local Resistance

The City of Bastrop continues to push back on Austin’s proposed aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) project, which would involve injecting treated water into the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer and storing it for later use. Although a recent bill (HB 1523) that would have blocked this type of project didn’t pass, Bastrop’s City Council has postponed signing any agreements until more transparency and safeguards are in place. Water is life in Bastrop County, and local leaders are working to make sure it stays protected.
